The Insanity of Farm Subsidies

I've reported repeatedely about the insanity of farm subsidies. Now Johan Norberg has an interesting post about how these farm subsidies just keep getting more and more insane:

"First they paid farmers to farm.

Then they paid farmers not to farm.

Then they took another step by paying non-farmers not to farm.

And just when you thought they´d run out of ideas, here comes the logical conclusion: Agricultural subsidies for the dead. Washington Post reports that deceased farmers in the US get $157 million a year. That makes a decent wage per working hour."

Farm subsidies does sound pretty ridiculous at times. But for Australians, a very big island nation, I feel they're pretty important. I guess, we're trying to rely on our own farmers than imported ones. Where, only God knows what they've used to make those foods grow. At least we're trying to keep the jobs for Australians, and keep the money within Australia...Ok i'm not a economic buff like you, but I thought i could just express myself here.

Are you really Australian? Then you would know that Australia has one of the lowest levels of farm subsidies among developed countries.
